There are many hidden Gems at General Herkimer School. This week we would like to recognize Amy Scaccia as our Utica Gem this week.
For the past 32 years you will find Mrs. Scaccia working at General Herkimer. Mrs. Scaccia attended Utica Free Academy (UFA). After college she began teaching in the Utica School district. She has been in the Utica School district for 33 years. She has taught in many different facets of the school including a multiage class of 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students.
Mrs. Scaccia has looped with classes from 1st to 2nd and then 3rd grade. She has been an AIS reading teacher and now for the past 10 years you can find her teaching Kindergarten.
Mrs. Scaccia enjoys working with all of the students at General Herkimer. There isn’t a day that goes by that a former student will stop in to say Hello! She finds joy in creating activities that go beyond the regular curriculum. Providing students with opportunities for deeper learning and engagement. Exposing them to various activities that they may have never experienced before such as the annual Spring egg hunt.
Mrs. Scaccia is a teacher students talk about from there elementary days and remember her warm personality, her joy for learning and most importantly how welcoming it was to be a part of her classroom community.
