For 24 years, Special Education Teacher Andrea "Andje" Bansner has been a quiet force of excellence, leading with an unwavering dedication to students. She is a Utica Gem that shines not for recognition, but because stepping up is simply who she is.

Mrs. Bansner went above and beyond to support far more than just the students on her caseload when faced with scheduling challenges earlier in the school year. Principal Karen Miller and Mrs. Nicole Collver, Chairperson of the Committee on Special Education, describe Mrs. Bansner as a knowledgeable and educated team player. The veteran teacher is also known to mentor new staff, cover meetings when needed and provide thoughtful classroom consultation with professionalism and care.

A fierce advocate for her students, Mrs. Bansner isn’t afraid to respectfully challenge recommendations when it’s in a child’s best interest, while still valuing collaboration and team consensus. On any given day, you’ll find her filling in wherever needed to ensure students remain the top priority.

A couple of fun facts about Mrs. Bansner include: she loves all animals, especially German Shepherds and Akitas, and she has a great sense of humor.

Thank you, Mrs. Bansner, for being a true Utica Gem and for all the ways you make the Columbus community stronger.
